Inside your flowerbox you’ll find instructions
The best months to sow the seeds are April, May and June.
First find a nice sunny spot in your garden or on your balcony, to sow in the open ground or in large pots. Remove weeds and make sure the soil is loosened. This will save you a lot of frustration during spring and summer. You can weed the soil very easily by hoeing. This will make the soil airy too. The seeds will love this! •
Sow the seeds in trenches and cover them with a small layer of soil (1 cm). Gently press the soil. Moisten the soil after sowing. The seeds will feel comfortable and will quickly grow into small plants. If they grow too close together, you can choose to remove some young plants and replant them elsewhere. Do this during cloudy weather.
Make sure that the soil is always a bit moist. Regularly remove the weeds that grow between your home-grown flowers.
The best months to plant the bulbs are April and May.
First find a nice sunny spot in your garden or on your balcony. Make sure the soil is well-drained, to prevent bulbs from rotting. You can mix the soil with compost (especially if you have heavy clay soil or soil that stays wet), to ensure good blooming. The soil will have to be loosened prior to planting. This will make the soil airy. The bulbs will love this! Also take away weeds. This will save you a lot of frustration during spring and summer.
Make holes in the ground: 5 cm deep and 15 cm apart from each other. Make sure the bulbs have enough space. (Contrary to seeds, you can’t replant the bulbs later.) Put a bulb in each hole, place them pointy side up. If there is no pointy side, look for where the roots come out: that end goes down. Cover the holes.
After planting, water your bulbs well. Make sure the soil is always a bit moist. Regularly remove the weeds that grow between your home-grown flowers.
The best months to harvest are June, July, August, September and October.
Summer is the time to enjoy your home-grown flowers! Cut the flowers, using a clean and sharp utensil. Immediately place the cut flowers in a bucket of water. When you cut the flowers, preferably do so early in the morning, when their stems are fully filled with water: they’ll have a longer vase life.
When you put the flowers in a vase, first cut the stems. Trim about two centimeters off and cut at an angle. Cutting the stems at an angle allows for better water intake.
Remove any leaves below the water line. It will not only make your bouquet look better, but also prevent bacterial growth.
Voila: you’ve got yourself your home-grown-bouquet!
Enjoy!
